Syntrus Achmea focuses on sustainable real estate that remains attractive in the long term, both for users and investors. This way, sustainable real estate contributes to a better environment and it also yields a higher return.

Offices: conversion and preservation
Demand for office space is expected to fall further in the next few years. On the other hand however, demand for modern sustainable buildings in top locations will increase proportionally. Among other things, Syntrus Achmea invests in the conversion and preservation of vacant office buildings. This also benefits the quality of the area.

Houses: testing for sustainability
Since 2010, Syntrus Achmea has been testing all house acquisitions for sustainability. This is done by means of the GPR Building system [GPR Gebouw systeem], which assesses real estate on five components: energy, the environment, health, quality of use and future value. We aim to reduce building-related energy consumption before the date agreed by the market parties and government in the 2008 Spring agreement.

Retail sector: increase awareness in the sector
The retail sector still has relatively little attention for sustainability. In order to change this, Syntrus Achmea and other market parties have joined the Retail Sector Sustainability Trendsetters platform [platformKoplopers Duurzaamheid in Retail]. In our own portfolio we test the sustainability of shopping centres on the basis of the BREEAM sustainability certificate.
